I have encounterd a variant of this file called PPQASASYSGUARD - it has all the same characteristics. It redirects all my web serches, and blocks any attempt to reomove it, to the extent that I can't even do a recovery. I am probably going to have to reformat the hard drive. It is a very malicious piece of malware which I believe is relatively new. This is the only site I've fould that describes anything like it.
