Bit Defender has identified this file - Runner.exe - as a threat. Everything else I read on this file states it is a RAM hog but doesn't seem to really do anything.

Bit defender delete the runner.exe file but unfortunately it keeps showing up every time you reboot your system. It is a virus concerned with adware programs (Adware.searchprotect.U) If you want it completely removed (all the related files and registry) use an adware cleaner tool such as adwcleaner.
