I have read your view and many others and I cannot understand how anyone can say that they understand what this program is supposed to do. Each review is asking the community to help them know what this thing might be. I have no idea how it got on my computer and that to me indicates malware.

WebCompanion.exe is an extension of Webroot antivirus/security software. It is a internet browser toolbar that is designed to protect you from malicious websites etc

Based on my experience, Ad Aware Web Companion is actually not a toolbar. It's a stand alone security program (about 7 MB in size) that works along side browsers and detects any malicious sites by analyzing the URL, effectively blocking those sites from highjacking browsers and installing viruses. It warns me any time a site has been detected and it gives me the option to continue loading the site if I trust it.

@Larry: The WebCompanion software comes bundled with software downloads. That's probably how it was installed on your machine.

I noticed Web Companion on my machine last night. Upon further investigation, I updated FrostWire to the latest version, and the creation/modify date and time of FrostWire and Web Companion is the same. I do not recall seeing the option to install it when FrostWire was updating, but I may have missed it.
That is how I believe it got on my machine.
