Hi there! If you are a regular here on the FreeFixer blog, you know that I’ve been examining files that have a digital signature and bundle various types of potentially unwanted software. Today I found another publisher named Download Free (Fried Cookie Ltd.)<\/strong> that bundles some software.<\/p>\n

Information about a digital signature and the certificate can also be found under the Digital Signature tab.. The screenshot below shows the Download Free (Fried Cookie Ltd.) certificate. From the certificate info we can see that Download Free (Fried Cookie Ltd.) appears to be located in Tel Aviv in Israel.<\/p>\n

What caught my attention was that the download was called Skype_Setup.exe. This might look like an official Skype<\/strong> download, but it is not. If it was an official download, it should be digitally signed by Skype Software Sarl<\/strong>. Here’s how the authentic Skype<\/strong> looks like when you double click on it. Notice that the “Verified publisher” says “Skype Software Sarl”.

The detection rate is 6\/55. K7GW detects Skype_Setup.exe as Unwanted-Program ( 004b0a911 )<\/strong> and VIPRE reports InstallCore (fs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
