I just found another <strong>bundled<\/strong>\u00a0program called <strong>SettingsGuard<\/strong> and wanted give you some <strong>removal instructions<\/strong>. SettingsGuard seems to be a variant of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/library\/file\/BitGuard.exe-100063\/\"><strong>BitGuard<\/strong><\/a> that I&#8217;ve written about before. If SettingsGuard is running on your computer, you will see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/library\/file\/SettingsGuard.exe-162079\/\">SettingsGuard.exe<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/library\/file\/sg.exe-162078\/\">sg.exe<\/a> running in the Windows Task Manager:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/settingsguard.exe-sg.exe-task-manager.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4020\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/settingsguard.exe-sg.exe-task-manager.png\" alt=\"settingsguard.exe sg.exe task manager\" width=\"686\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/settingsguard.exe-sg.exe-task-manager.png 686w, https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/settingsguard.exe-sg.exe-task-manager-300x89.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will also see loader.dll and ld64.dll registered as APPInit_Dlls.\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">I&#8217;ll show how to remove SettingsGuard in this blog post with the <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5;\" title=\"About FreeFixer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/about-freefixer\/\">FreeFixer removal tool<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, how did SettingsGuard install on your machine? It was probably <strong>bundled<\/strong> with some download that you installed recently. Bundling means that software is included in other software&#8217;s installers. When I first found SettingsGuard, it was bundled with a download called <strong>Codec Perforer<\/strong>. Guess that is typo and it should be <strong>Codec Performer<\/strong>. This is how SettingsGuard was disclosed in Codec Perforer&#8217;s installer when I found it:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SettingsGuard-installer-Searchalgo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4021\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SettingsGuard-installer-Searchalgo.png\" alt=\"SettingsGuard installer Searchalgo\" width=\"427\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SettingsGuard-installer-Searchalgo.png 427w, https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SettingsGuard-installer-Searchalgo-300x174.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The installer file is digitally signed by <strong>Elephant Tech Software LLC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Elephant-Tech-Software-LLC.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4011\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Elephant-Tech-Software-LLC.png\" alt=\"Elephant Tech Software LLC\" width=\"497\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Elephant-Tech-Software-LLC.png 497w, https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Elephant-Tech-Software-LLC-300x175.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Generally, you can avoid bundled software such as SettingsGuard by being careful when installing software and declining the bundled offers in the installer.<\/p>\n<p>When I mess around with some new bundled software I usually upload it to <a title=\"How To Scan a File for Viruses with VirusTotal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/scan-files-for-viruses-virustotal\/\">VirusTotal<\/a> to test if the anti-virus tools there find something. 35% of the antimalware scanners detected the sg.exe file. The SettingsGuard files are detected as <strong>Gen:Variant.Strictor.73974<\/strong> by Ad-Aware, <strong>Riskware.Agent!<\/strong> by Agnitum and <strong>a variant of Win32\/SmartCyberTech.A<\/strong> by ESET-NOD32.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sg.exe-virustotal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4022\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sg.exe-virustotal.png\" alt=\"sg.exe virustotal\" width=\"764\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sg.exe-virustotal.png 764w, https:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sg.exe-virustotal-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to <strong>remove SettingsGuard<\/strong> you can do so with the freeware <a title=\"About FreeFixer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freefixer.com\/b\/about-freefixer\/\">FreeFixer<\/a> tool. Select the SettingsGuard items for removal in FreeFixer, click Fix, restart your machine and the problem will be gone.
