Just wanted to put up a short post before going back to coding on FreeFixer<\/a>. Found another PUA<\/strong> called MagnoPlayer<\/strong> right now. This appears to be a variant of NewPlayer<\/strong><\/a> that I’ve previously blogged about.<\/p>\n

\"MagnoPlayer\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If MagnoPlayer is installed and running on your machine, you’ll notice MagnoPlayer.exe<\/a>, WBrowser.exe<\/a> and mgChecker.exe<\/a> running in the Windows Task Manager. You will also see a new service installed called\u00a0magnoplayerupdaterservice.exe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Currently, some of these files are detected by the anti-virus programs, some are not. I’ll show how to remove MagnoPlayer<\/strong> in this blog post with the FreeFixer<\/a> removal tool.<\/p>\n

The installer file for MagnoPlayer, is digitally signed by Digital Plugin SL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As usual when I mess around with some new software I uploaded it to VirusTotal<\/a> to see if the anti-malware scanners there find anything interesting. The detection rate is pretty low. 4 of the 57 scanners detected the file. Baidu-International classifies MangoPlayer as PUA.MSIL.NewPlayer.bA<\/strong>, DrWeb names it Adware.Siggen.31174<\/strong> and ESET-NOD32 reports a variant of MSIL\/NewPlayer.A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The MagnoPlayer removal<\/strong> with FreeFixer<\/a> is straightforward. Check all the MangoPlayer files for removal and click fix. Here’s a few screenshots from the removal that should help you:<\/p>\n
