Hi there. Did something called Taplika<\/strong> appear on your computer? Taplika seems to be a variant of Vosteran<\/strong><\/a> that I blogged about previously. If the Taplika is running on your system, you’ll see a bunch of processes called Taplika.exe<\/a> running in the Windows Task Manager, many browser settings changed\/added pointing to taplika.com and two new entries in the uninstall programs dialog called WSE_Taplika<\/strong> and taplika.<\/p>\n

You will also see a new web browser<\/strong> added on your computer, called Taplika. It’s built using the Chromium open source code. The Taplika\u00a0browser looks just like Google Chrome:\"taplika<\/a><\/p>\n

I’ll show how to remove Taplika in this blog post with the FreeFixer removal tool.<\/p>\n

Taplika is bundled<\/strong> with other software. Bundled means that it is included in another software’s installer. The following screenshot shows how Taplika was disclosed when I found it.<\/p>\n

Generally, you can avoid bundled software such as Taplika by being careful when installing software and declining the bundled offers in the installer.<\/p>\n

As always when I find some new bundled software I uploaded it to VirusTotal<\/a> to check if the anti-malware software there find something suspicious. Only 7% of the scanners detected the file. Baidu-International reports Taplika as Hacktool.Win32.ADInstaller.aS<\/strong>, Kaspersky calls it not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win32.ADInstaller.d<\/strong>, Panda classifies it as Generic Suspicious<\/strong> and TrendMicro-HouseCall detects it as TROJ_GEN.R047H07AV15<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you would like to remove Taplika<\/strong> you can do so with the freeware FreeFixer<\/a> tool. Select the Taplika files for removal in FreeFixer, click Fix, restart your system and the problem will be gone. Here’s a few screenshots to point you in the right direction:<\/p>\n
