Did you just download a file that is digitally signed by ICQ and wonder if the file is safe? If so, please read on.

You will typically see ICQ when running the file. The publisher name is then displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screenshot shows:

You can view additional details from the ICQ certificate with the following steps:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the ICQ file
  2. Right-click on the file and select Properties
  3. Click the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click on the View Certificate button

Here is a screengrab of a file signed by ICQ:

As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows states that "This digital signature is OK". This means that the file has been published by ICQ and that no one has tampered with the file.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can examine all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, and so on. You can also view the address for ICQ, such as the street name, city and country.

VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2004 CA, VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2009-2 CA and VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2010 CA has issued the ICQ certificates. You can also see the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.
