PlayThru Player - 6% Detection Rate *

Did you just stumble upon a download or a file on your computer that has been digitally signed by PlayThru Player? Some of the security products refers to the detected files as PUP.Optional.PlayThruPlayer and PUA.Win32.Verti.Q. The detection rate for the PlayThru Player files collected here is 6%. You will probably see PlayThru Player when double-clicking to run the file. The publisher name shows up as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screengrab shows:

You can also view the PlayThru Player certificate with the following steps:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the PlayThru Player file
  2. Right-click on the file and select Properties
  3. Click on the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click the View Certificate button

As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows states that "This digital signature is OK". This implies that the file has been published by PlayThru Player and that no one has tampered with the file.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screengrab above, you can examine all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, etc. You can also see the address for PlayThru Player, such as the street name, city and country.

Symantec Class 3 SHA256 Code Signing CA has issued the PlayThru Player certificates. You can also view the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.
