STMSetup - 29% Detection Rate *

Did you just stumble upon a download or a file on your computer that has a digital signature from STMSetup? Some of the security products refers to the detected files as Unwanted-Program ( 004a9d551 ) and Install Core Click run software. The detection rate for the STMSetup files collected here is 29%. Please read on for more details.

You will probably notice STMSetup when double-clicking to run the file. The publisher name is then displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screenshot shows:

You can also view the STMSetup certificate with the following procedure:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the STMSetup file
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties
  3. Click on the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click on the View Certificate button

Here is a screengrab of a file that has been signed by STMSetup:

As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows reports that "This digital signature is OK". This implies that the file has been published by STMSetup and that the file has not been tampered with.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can see all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, etc. You can also examine the address for STMSetup, such as the street name, city and country.

COMODO Code Signing CA 2 has issued the STMSetup certificates. You can also examine the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.
