Smart Apps - 3% Detection Rate *

Did you just find a download or a file on your computer that is digitally signed by Smart Apps? Some of the security products refers to the detected files as GamePlayLabs (fs) and Adware.Plugin.111. The detection rate for the Smart Apps files collected here is 3%. Please read on for more details.

You'll typically see Smart Apps when running the file. The publisher name is then displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screengrab shows:

You can view additional details from the Smart Apps certificate with the following procedure:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the Smart Apps file
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties
  3. Click on the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click the View Certificate button

Here is a screenshot of a file that has been digitally signed by Smart Apps:

As you can see in the screencap above, the Windows OS reports that "This digital signature is OK". This means that the file has been published by Smart Apps and that no one has tampered with the file.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can view all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, and so on. You can also view the address for Smart Apps, such as the street name, city and country.

Thawte Code Signing CA - G2 has issued the Smart Apps certificates. You can also examine the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screencap above.
