I've been loaded with several variants of this file - same tmp.node extension different numbers - all of which arrived on my laptop yesterday. I used only Outlook and Mozilla (to watch guitar lesson videos on You Tube) during the day. Nothing else.

Bitdefender located the files during an optimise scan but could not delete them. I tried shredding using the Bitdefender shredder but was informed "you are not authorised" to delete.

A virus scan shows the file is clean, but I am not comfortable.

@Jeff: I don't know what program is creating these tmp.node files. But you can find out by using Microsoft's Process Explorer.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

In Process Explorer, Go to Find > Find Handle or DLL. In the "Handle or DLL substring:" text box, type the path to the tmp.node file and click "Search". All processes which have an open handle to that file should be listed.

Please let me know what you find out.
