From my recent experience BlockNSurf not only SHOULD be removed, but MUST be removed: it was preventing me from surfing/connecting to the internet at all. I already had AT&T scheduled for a repair call when I checked Device Manager and saw two unfamiliar entries for "BlockNSurf." I stopped them, uninstalled them, and the problem cleared up. I cancelled the repair call. This on Firefox, with Windows7.
