Since FreeFixer reported that the files were deleted during the reboot, it appears that something is restoring the unwanted files during the reboot. Please review the scan result to see if you can find something suspicious there. The "More Info" links, in the scan result, can often be useful when tracking down some unwanted software.

Please let us know if you find a solution.

Still struggling with the removal of colormedia.dll

was able to remove two files I found in Norten Power eraser, that in turn enabled free fixer to truly erase the

ColorMedia64.dll in System32

and

ColorMedia.dll in SysWow64

in restart stayed gone, but my networking and internet access would not work. tried every kind of fix to no avail.did all the CMD fixes... etc. Guess I have to erase my internet network.

Found out that the two files kept the network the same and working but was obliterated when I erased the color dlls.

thought about doing a windows 7 repair install, but too risky too many valuable files and programs....to put at risk, even with a backup.

so I am sitting tight right now, but very suspicious that this trojan is stealing my science data.

so I am anxious to get this thing out of here.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If I kill the files and erase the network it allows, do you think I can set up a new network?

thanks,
Max

Any updates on this? I still haven't been able to delete the ColorMedia.dll file, I downloaded free fixer deleted anything that looked suspicious, yet I am still unable to connect to the internet and this pop up window keeps saying that the file is not designed for windows or it contains an error. I don't know what to do, I even restored to a back up I had done a couple of days before and not even that worked. If anyone knows how to remove this or has any recent updates on this file please let me know.

I don't know if this will help, but someone over at BleepingComputer's forum reported that removal of ColorMedia could be done with Ubuntu, and then using System Restore:

"Then another thought hit. If Windows won't delete this stuff, may Linux will. Turns out it did it easily. I put in the Ubuntu 14 install disk and selected the "Try it" option. The Windows partition is accessible. Then I just deleted all the suspect files. On restart Windows repair came up and asked if I wanted to restore to an earlier date. I did and it did. The services and files are now gone and my computer is back to normal."

It seems like ColorMedia.dll is installed as a Layered Service Provider (LSP). If removed incorrectly, it will break the Internet connection.

FreeFixer should be able to delete the 64-bit version LSP on a 64-bit Windows OS installation without breaking the LSP chain. Same thing for a 32-bit LSP on a 32-bit Windows OS.

However, FreeFixer can probably delete the 32-bit LSP file on a 64-bit system but will break the LSP chain resulting in a broken internet connection.

There's an old program called LSPFix that can repair a broken 32-bit LSP chain. Video demo here:

Hope that helps.
