DBROverlayIcon.dll is an overlay icon that superimpose on all the icons or the files that have been backed up with Dell Backup and recovery, stamping all backed up files icons with the ugly little icon of DBR in the lower left corner.

There is a way to avoid the ugly effect by unregistering the overlay.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\Components\Shell

Open a command window there

at the prompt, if you have a regular Dell type :

RegisterOverlayShell.bat DELL unregister

If instead you have an AlienWare machine type :

RegisterOverlayShell.bat ALW unregister

This will reverse the registration and restart explorer.exe, restoring your beloved icons to their original state :)

DBROverlayIcon.dll interferes with Windows 7 Create Recovery Disk on Dell XPS 8700 (and probably other models), after recent Dell updates. Users will get a popup stating Windows is closing when trying to create a recovery disk. One quick and dirty work around is to simply rename the driver to DBROverlayIcon.old. The Windows 7 Create Recovery Disk then functions normally. This driver must have been rushed into production with little testing.
