Hm, gehört augenscheinlich zu der äußerst dubiosen Snake-Oil-Software 'Spyware Detector' von Max Secure Software. Da dieses Tool jedoch definitiv nie auf meinem -vor drei Wochen frisch aufgesetzten- Rechner installiert war, scheint die Komponente also offensichtlich auch von anderen Tools verwendet und mitgebracht zu werden. Falls ich mir noch die Mühe mache den Inkulpaten zu identifizieren werde ich das Ergebnis mitteilen und diesen Kommentar updaten.

Ein WinMend-Produkt war bei mir der Übeltäter, nämlich WinMend File Copy. Bei diesem Tool bleibt es schleierhaft, zu welchen Zwecken der DIenst eigentlich installiert wurde. Der sich übrigens mit einer im Malware-Stil gehaltenen, nichtssagenden und ortographisch fragwürdigen Beschreibung der Marke "Sunny Digits service for repair software system bug" ausweist. Sowas toleriere ich nicht, wer mir derart dubiose Dienste unterschieben will soll mir bitte vorab in einer Readme erklären, wozu er diese Komponente benötigt. File Copy, besagten Dienst und dessen Registry-Traces habe ich entfernt, WinMend wird zukünftig gemieden.

Ben, thanks a lot for the info. I just casually ran a malwarebytes scan, and it detected this sdservice, which I never installed.
Upon reading your comment, I realized that I too had installed this WinMend file splitter 4 months ago, which I had uninstalled after a day, but it must have left that sdservice.
With both of our experiences combined, I am sure that WinMend is the culprit, and this application should be avoided at all costs.
