How do I disable automatic updates for the browser? And is there a way to combine all processes into one, because I've gone from 15 processes to 22 with the installation of this browser.

While i appreciate the reply, I don't like the answer. Why would anyone DL an obscure or copycat browser in the first place? To get away from the more popular ones that are cutting off poorer users with outdated computers. I don't know what, it wasn't broken so why they chose to "fix" it I'll never know. The new Firefox requires a trillion Tb of RAM and one of your thumbs to work correctly. Chrome's even worse. But in it's defense, it at least lets you disable automatic updates. I contacted them and they flat out told me that they don't even give you the option of turning it off. I could rename it but then I've got a ghost registry key somewhere that's going to try and start it up every time I turn the computer on. Which, I'd assume, would lead to lag.
I use Firefox 3.5.10 as it's the last update compatible with my computer. But it leaks, it can't handle java script, after closing the browser the process continues to run in the background taking up 99% of the computer's resources. With Torch it was updated for the 2014 internet and seemed to handle java script with ease, etc. It was a true lightweight browser, it flew. But to have updates forced on me...how long would it take before they made some "improvement" that renders it as completely useless as the other two browsers mentioned above? And then there's Opera 12, which seems to be the answer until you find out how many sites are incompatible with it. And again, it's outdated so any page with JS will drag and drag. Try making a comment on most websites and you'll be there for 3 hours. Literally.
Chrome says it requires only 128Mb of RAM but when running it it becomes abundantly apparent that little feature can only benefit people with 512Mb of RAM or above if you're using XP.
I know the solution, i just can't afford it. It sucks, basically my internet surfing is now limited to only a handful of sites.

Thank you for replying to my long winded rant. Honestly, what I meant to say didn't come out right. When I say how long until they "improve it" again, I meant that a forced update might lead to making the browser (Torch) as unusable as the latest updates of Firefox or Chrome. I tend to complicate things. Sorry about that.
In order to try this I'm going to have to find the exe file I originally used and hope it doesn't automatically update it during installation. I might still have it on my computer somewhere but finding it may be difficult. Honestly, after I emailed them and they insisted I just let them force the update on me or go take a hike, I was pretty pissed. They said some things and then I said some things that might be illegal in certain states. They may have said this is the way it has to be and i may have made some disparaging comments about their mothers, wives or children. They may have been totally professional, even if it was completely control-freakish and I may have reacted to that like a Mongol Warlord, threatening to steal wives and rape livestock. Or vice versa, I don't know. All I know is that they had the balls to tell me that in order to use their product, I had to bend over and "take it." And it's their party and they can cry if they want to. It's not like I'm paying for it. They provide a free service and they expect people will, at the very least, be good little labrats for their experiment.
So I uninstalled it. With extreme prejudice.
I don't think I like computers anymore. I don't think I like the internet anymore. As soon as you catch up, they're pulling away yet again. It's getting to be like it is with iPhones and iPads, where you have to buy another one every year. There's no longer any support for XP from Microsoft, the only other OS I'd even consider using is Win7 because I HATE...with a capital HATE...Win8 and touch screen. I know a lot of people think that's like the greatest thing ever...but I smoke and surf. I'm going to be blowing a lot of ash off my keyboard and god forbid I mess with it while drunk, I'll wake up with burn holes in the screen. I like a mouse. I miss wires. I miss ethernet cables.
Hell, I miss pay phones.
Here I go again. Long winded. I can't stop typing.
I'm not a good little consumer. I'm replying to you on a tank. This laptop is over a decade old. I take good care of my things and they take good care of me. It's true, I can't afford a new computer, and even if I could I think I'd hate it. I'd have to learn a whole new OS...just to unlearn it in a few years when they grace me with another brilliant update. They'll make a computer that responds to bad gas or something.
It makes me want to start a war. But I'm 5'6, horribly sickly and underweight...I'm the stereotype of a computer geek minus the glasses. I'm real tough on the internet. In real life? Not so much. There are 10 year old girls that could whip my ass. I'm positive of it.
Anyway, you gave me 3 seemingly easy steps to give it another try. And i appreciate it, I really do. But I groaned. And then I though to myself...wow, you're really being difficult.
So here's what I'm going to do, I'm going to follow your instructions. Not for myself, but for the other 10 people who may feel similarly. But then I'm going to take this thing out to the desert and beat it with a baseball bat until I have a heart attack and die. And this computer, god bless her, will still probably turn on. Because that's how great it is. It's like an old American car, built to last. And it's been rendered obsolete. In favor of computers that are made to last probably no longer than 5 years. And that's a generous estimate.
I just can't forgive them for that. Whoever "them" is. I don't even know anymore. All I know is clonazepam makes everything alright. Anyway, thanks for your time and I'll get back to you with some kind of results. For others. For uh...posterity, or something. Otherwise, I'm done with this crap. I'm going to find a cave next to a lake and live off the fat of the land...for about a week until they find my corpse. Starved or mauled by a mountain lion.
