I think that the AdBeaver add-on became installed during the installation of an other add-on, namely of the Public Fox add-on.

Public Fox 1.11.4 from developer „publicfox“ can be found via the "Add-ons search" function of the Mozilla Firefox browser (currently in use by me...: iceweasel version 17.0.9). The "publicfox" add-on purports to protect the firefox browser settings and add-ons from being changed (presumably only until the user authorises such change) by way of password protecting the add-ons and the settings. The self-advertising installation text of the PublicFox add-on reads ...:
"Block downloads, lock down bookmarks/addons/downloads with a password.

Perfect for Public Places or within families

Block downloads
Prevent browser changes.
Locks down Add-ons, Preferences, 'about:config'.
Bookmarks
Blocks unwanted Web Sites
All with a central password.
Continuisly updated for max. security.

The ESC "bug" was Version fixed in 1.11.3 so NOT
BREAKABLE any more
please update to the newest Version

PublicFox asks you to add the extension AdBeaver
which helps you and us to collelct coins and makes ads
even more secure. You will get asked in a prompt
whether you want that additional addon to be installed or not. We appreciate your support. Thank you!
The AdBeaver extension is save to use and follows
Mozilla guidelines.
Of course PublicFox can also be used without it. Also
the additional addons can be removed anytime later in
the addon settings.

Enjoy it!"

As for the AdBeaver add-on, its own self-advertisement reads...:
AdBeaver

aber dafür sichere Werbung (frei Registrieren
von Malware) und kannst zudem für jede eingeblendete Werbung

[Deaktivieren] [Entfernen]" <-- German language. Roughly translated...: "With AdBeaver you see less but therefore secure Ads (free from malware) and can also collect Adcoins for each displayed ad. Simply register with Email address and password and continue on surfing."

I have since discovered that the adbeaver@adbeaver.org.xpi Mozilla Firefox addon has been considered to be a trojan by drweb as witnessed at ..:
http://vms.drweb.com/virus/?i=3892138
( Here is more info on drweb ...:
https://www.ptext.de/nachrichten/lxpn-distributor-doctor-web-737320 )

As I have personally no interest either in sacrificing online any more of my personal data than I must nor in collecting Adcoins, I intend to first deactivate and then if possible remove / purge the AdBeaver add-on from this browser and from the OS. I will likely do the same with the PublicFox add-on.

The AdBeaver add-on first became obtrusively visible and suspect for me when the following error messages appeared while Iceweasel was starting up [version details : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130917 Firefox/17.0 Iceweasel/17.0.9 ID:20130917135315 CSet: Undefined] …:
