HERE are the specs for my HP 15 Laptop w/64 bit Win 8.1: 6 gigs RAM running @ 666.7 MHz, 460 GB HD w/3 Gb/sec transfer rate, 2.16 GHz Intel Pentium N3530 quad core CPU (each core running @ 500 MHz), 83 MHz bus speed, Insyde BIOS ver F.41. I have a dedicated 12 Mb/sec transfer rate internet connection. It seems that the hardware is not the bottleneck contributing to my slow startup speed...Since my average boot time is 101 seconds w/98 services, processes, utilities, apps, etc., starting @ boot time, I'm looking for non-essential startup items to disable,& umpo.dll is #4 on the start up priority list. A "power mode policy" suggests that more than one PC is involved in a network & that procedural management is needed to insure adherence to such policy. If no network is involved, is this process merely superfluous? What other processes (if any) depend on this service? I think I can live w/o user-mode power management as long as there are no repercussions affecting the stability of the hardware or the Windows platform...Has anyone disabled this service, & found that it was a catalyst to promulgating PC performance problems?
