Task manager is showing me 100% of disk in use because of that... It's using 70%. Don't have to be a genius to know that something is wrong about that, so if anyone knows anything about it, I would appreciate a lot if you send me an email on "alain.chaaya3@gmail.com" describing the issue as much as you can. Thanks in advance.

sedsvc.exe is part of the "Windows Remediation Service". It was released relatively recently. As I understand it, Windows Remediation Service fixes various configuration problems or other issues with Windows Update.

The sedsvc.exe service is configured to run automatically. On my machine I noticed high CPU usage for about a minute, but then it calmed down to 0% CPU.

Found some more details on the Windows Remediation Service. It appears that this service was introduced in update KB4023057.

Here are the key features of the Windows Remediation Service:

* The update may compress files in your user profile directory to help free up enough disk space to install important updates. @Alain: I think this could be the reason sedsvc.exe is using a lot of disk and CPU.

* Your device may be requested to stay awake longer to enable installation of updates.

* The update may also reset network settings if problems are detected, and it will clean up registry keys that may be preventing updates from being installed.

* The update may repair disabled or corrupted Windows operating system components that determine if updates should be installed.

* The update may reset the Windows Update database to repair the problems that could prevent updates from installing successfully. Therefore, you may see that your Windows Update history was cleared.

There's a file called ServiceStackHardening.Inf in "C:\Program Files\rempl" which also describe the purpose of the Windows Remediation Service:

[Profile Description]
Description=Hardens the servicing stack against admin tampering

Hope this brought some light onto sedlauncher.exe, sedsvc.exe and the Window sRemediation Service.

I found your additional posts on sedsvc and remediation service useful and informative.

I'm used to Microsoft delving into the etymology of the word "exec" in response to the inquiry: what is it?, What does it do? Should I remove it?

Microsoft's description of sedsvc as sedsvc seems to encapsulate the whole issue :-) ... thanks

It uses 100% of your resources without asking as a malware does. Makes my laptop stutter then, boots me from internet connection and makes every wifi connection disappear. Only way to get internet connections back is to turn computer off and reboot.

These programs are legit (if they are in fact HTTPS aquired from Microsoft, don't fall for a E-mail suggesting you download any of these). The sneaky thing is that regardless of your anti phishing malware antivirus settings, by allowing some of them, they are forced into your operating system. I smell fish,,,, when I have no power over something that is forced into my system. All in the good name or description of "For the Greater Good". Be carefull what you allow in, as it almost always results in changes down the road that have a history of being nefarious.

@Joeme and @Viking: In my case it ran for 100% CPU for about a minute. What happens if you let it run for a while? Does it calm down or does it keep on using 100% of your CPU?
